Prof. Mark Ashton is a Clinical Professor of Surgery and Honorary Professor of Anatomy at the University of Melbourne, and Chair of Plastic Surgery at Epworth Freemasons Hospital. He has held senior leadership roles as Head of Plastic Surgery at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Royal Women’s Hospital for more than 15 years, and served as President of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons from 2017 to 2019.

He is the Plastic Surgery Specialty Elected Councillor to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and currently sits on the Board of Training and Council for the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the New Zealand Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Mark also advises the Victorian Government as a member of the Perioperative Expert Advisory Board for Safer Care Victoria.

In academia, Mark is Co-Editor in Chief of the Australasian Journal of Plastic Surgery and an Invited Editor for the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal in the United States. He is an invited Faculty Member of the International Perforator Flap Course in Belgium and Chair of the Melbourne Advanced Facial Anatomy Course, with regular involvement in leading international breast surgery meetings.

Mark is Director of the Taylor Research Laboratory at the University of Melbourne and has previously served in senior roles with Interplast, a not-for-profit organisation providing plastic surgery across the Asia Pacific. He has authored eleven book chapters and published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
