Established in 1991. I started Malibu Makos while lifeguarding at my local beach club here in Malibu in 1991. As a junior lifeguard instructor I saw a need to make JG's more fun and surf oriented so I started my own surf camp with the intent of combining the ocean safety education and safety standards found in a Junior Lifeguard program with the fun and excitement of a top-level surf camp. It has been a very successful combination! Since our inception we have provided countless surf lessons and have taught over 50,000 adults and children from all over the world how to surf but more importantly about ocean safety. All of our students receive in depth education about rip currents, lateral currents, impact zone knowledge, wave judgement and selection. With this info our students gain respect for the power of the ocean and learn how to manage their time in the ocean safely and confidently. Our instructors are the best in the business.
