Business Description
Jared M. Schneider is the managing attorney for Schneider Law P.C. After practicing in and around Chicago for several years, in the summer of 2021, Jared and his family moved to Bloomington, Indiana, and he founded Schneider Law shortly thereafter. From Chicago to Bloomington, Jared has dedicated his practice to helping clients solve problems involving their businesses, investments, and civil rights.
From Client To Counsel: A Path To Practicing
Growing up, “lawyer” was a four-letter word in Jared’s home. Lawyers were greedy, sleazy, and dishonest; one should avoid contact with them as much as possible, let alone actually become one.
So, with the possibility of practicing law firmly out of his mind, in the summer before his Junior year at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, Jared founded a small custom-cookie delivery business in downtown Bloomington that specialized in efficiently baking customized cookies on demand. Less than two years into operating, however, the business’s landlord filed an eviction action.
Jared’s lawyer told him—correctly—that, given the amount of damages alleged, it would be cheaper to settle than to argue. But Jared was an inexperienced young business owner, determined to fight the case on its merits. He dismissed his lawyer, contested the case on his own, and successfully had the case dismissed.
The process of researching the law, analyzing arguments, and advocating in court sparked an intellectual curiosity about the law that remains to this day. Not long after, Jared sold his business and resolved to study and practice law.
In 2021, by God’s infinite grace and mercy, and after a personal encounter with Jesus Christ, an absence of water, and a good deal of research, Jared surrendered to God. Jared confesses that Jesus is Lord, and believes in his heart of hearts that God raised him from the dead.
After more than a decade of practicing law, Jared is honored and blessed by the opportunity to work alongside his clients, helping them solve problems bigger than themselves.
Transparent And Strategic Advocacy
As an attorney, Jared’s aim is to remove as much of the worry and uncertainty from his clients’ shoulders as possible. He accomplishes this by developing a strategic litigation plan from the start that includes not just his client’s legal theories and goals, but the opposition’s as well. Jared’s constant objective is to comprehend the opposition’s arguments and theories better than they do.
If Jared is helping to pursue a claim, he will work in conjunction with the victim to identify who bears responsibility, how and why they are responsible, and the legal tools necessary for success. If Jared is defending his client, he will outline the potential exposure, assess the case’s expected value, and explore any available affirmative defenses and counterclaims.
Jared’s goal, after every meeting, is to leave his clients feeling a sense of peace—even when there’s a storm ahead.
Guiding Clients Through Legal Complexities
Jared works primarily with business owners, investors, and employees navigating complex disputes. Often, his clients are the business owners whose partner betrayed their trust, the investors studying a deal’s intricate terms, or the employees who are forced to choose between their religious convictions and their livelihood.
Jared serves clients from all walks of life. But no matter the size or complexity of the case, the clients Jared can help most effectively are those who maintain quality, consistent records. Clear documentation is often the difference between winning and losing in court.
Law As The Framework Of Human Experience
On his first day of law school, in his first class, Jared’s contracts professor told him, “Law is the inculcation of human experience.”
Our legal system, particularly common law, has developed from the Torah, slowly and over thousands of years, to serve as a structured framework to teach, through repetition, appropriate human interactions. Jared views his role as helping clients navigate that framework to reach the most just and beneficial outcomes.
Both professionally and personally, Jared believes that, so far as it depends on us, we should be at peace with everyone. He believes that lawsuits are not a means for exercising vengeance, and that wrongdoers will eventually receive their reward, either here or after.
As best as he can, he follows King Solomon’s proverb to feed one’s enemies if they are hungry, and to give them a drink if they are thirsty, for it will heap burning coals on their head. Jared strives not to be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good.
Like everything else in the universe, success in court is subject to God’s will. All of the Glory, Honor, and Praise for whatever happens in court belongs to God, not the attorney, no matter how skilled. Therefore, Jared does not measure his professional achievements with money, judgments, or dismissals.
While important to his clients, Jared does not consider his greatest professional accomplishment to be the slam-dunk victory on the merits, the near-total recovery at mediation, the fee award after the appellate affirmance, or any of the other “on-paper” successes he has secured for his clients over the years. Rather, his greatest accomplishment was in a divorce case where, after months of delicate pressure, he convinced his client’s husband to choose life and family over death and alcoholism.
Jared is grateful for the reminder that life on Earth is painfully, frighteningly short, and can end at a moment’s notice. In all things, Jared strives to practice law with this bigger picture in mind.
