Southern Pain and Spine is an independent Interventional Pain Management practice that was founded by Ankur B. Patel, DO, RPH in 2021. Serving patients throughout North Georgia and Metro Atlanta, the practice has five convenient office and surgery center locations in Athens, Fayetteville, Gainesville, Newnan, and Jasper.

At Southern Pain and Spine, we take a rehabilitative approach to pain management, educating patients on treatment options without the use of opioids whenever possible. Research no longer supports the long-term use of opioid pain medication for chronic non-cancer pain and, in fact, escalating doses of opioids have proven to have highly adverse effects.

Similarly, we feel it is important to give patients realistic expectations when it comes to the control of their pain and work with them to develop an individualized treatment plan with the goal of an improved level of function (rather than chasing an often-elusive goal of zero pain).
