Business Description
I am Matthew E. Romanik, Volusia County’s longest continuously board certified workers’ compensation lawyer. My family moved from Pennsylvania to Florida soon before I began elementary school in Lakeland, Florida. I ultimately graduated from Lakeland High School in the top 3% of my class in 1988. I was proud to play tenor drums in the Dreadnaughts marching band.
I was honored to be accepted to attend college at the University of Florida. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science within less than four years of my enrollment in 1992. While studying as an undergraduate, I also worked for the Soil Science department predominantly working on soil hydrology experiments to help farmers optimize water usage with a focus on sustainable conservation and usage. In part because the University of Florida was great overall and in part because I hoped to finish the statewide soil hydrology mapping project, I applied for and was accepted to the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida. The College of Law generally required student to not hold a position of employment during at least the first year of law school. I received an exemption from that rule and continued to engage in both my studies and the soil hydrology project through my graduation from law school in 1995.
I became a member of the Florida Bar in October of 1995 and have practiced law based in Volusia County ever since. Since my graduation I have represented predominantly plaintiffs and claimants in workers’ compensation claims, employment discrimination claims, personal injury cases, disability claims and Fair Labor Standards Act cases of a wide variety.
I have contributed to my community as a Board Member of the City of Daytona Beach’s Historical Preservation Board, the Halifax Historical Society, the Halifax Heritage Byway and Trials, and the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida, Inc. I am a member of the Florida Justice Association and the Florida Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association. When I take a break from diligently representing my clients I regularly bicycle, kayak, hike and boat in and around our beautiful and diverse environment. My most important achievement to date is being the proud father of a smart, kind, witty gymnast who is growing and maturing at a stunning pace.
