Our founder Gerald Kurtz was a crane operator at a steel mill when he realized that what was missing in his work was a more efficient way to move heavy loads from one place to another. He teamed up with his friend Charles May and together they worked on weekends out of their garage until they had built their first crane, and then another one. They took out loans, maxed out credit cards, and even borrowed money from friends just so they could keep building these machines that made moving things around easier than ever before. After years of hard work and dedication, Jerry's son Kraig joined him in running the business, and then Kraig's son Mark followed suit! The years have flown by since those early days in Jerry's garage, but our commitment has never wavered: we care deeply about family values here at YorkHoist.
