The acquisition of Northwest Airlines was announced on April 1, 2008. Approved and completed on October 29, 2008. Northwest remained a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta until December 31, 2009, when Northwest's operating certificate was merged with Delta's operating certificate. Delta completed his merger with Northwest Airlines on January 31, 2010, merging the company's computer reservation system with his website and officially discontinuing the Northwest Airlines brand.
