Ivermectin is a medication primarily used to treat parasitic infections in humans and animals. It belongs to the class of drugs known as anthelmintics, which are effective against a wide range of parasites. The drug works by paralyzing and killing the parasites, thereby eliminating the infection. In recent times, Ivermectin has gained attention for its potential use in treating COVID-19. Some studies and anecdotal evidence suggest that it may have antiviral properties and could help reduce the severity of symptoms in infected individuals. However, its efficacy and safety for this purpose are still under investigation, and health authorities have not universally recommended it for COVID-19 treatment. It's important to note that Ivermectin should only be taken under medical supervision, as improper use or dosage can lead to adverse effects. Always consult a healthcare professional for guidance on its appropriate use and potential benefits.
