Jake A. Carlson is the founder and lead estate planning attorney at LifePlan Legal AZ, where he helps Arizona families protect their legacy through values-based estate planning. With a rare blend of legal expertise, business acumen, and real-world leadership experience, Jake brings clarity, compassion, and strategy to every client relationship.

Jake holds a Juris Doctor (JD) from California Western School of Law and an MBA from San Diego State University, earned concurrently. Recognized early for his creative problem-solving approach, he was awarded both the Creative Problem-Solving Scholarship and the Outstanding Case Award for best MBA consulting project. He is a licensed member of the State Bar of Arizona and a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA), offering strategic guidance for business owners planning for succession.

Before founding LifePlan Legal AZ, Jake spent over a decade in nonprofit leadership, including national roles with the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as National Major Gifts Counsel and developed a passion for helping families transfer not only wealth but core values and vision. That experience led him to pioneer the Values-Based Estate Planning process used by LifePlan Legal today.

Jake later served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council, where he led regional development across four counties and managed a team of 18. Under his leadership, the council earned the prestigious Journey to Excellence Award.

A dynamic communicator, Jake has presented to over 200 groups in 27 states on estate planning, leadership, and legacy. He is a published author of more than 100 leadership articles, host of the Family Before Fortune and Modern Leadership podcasts, and an engaging public speaker known for his warmth and storytelling.

Outside of the office, Jake is an adventurer at heart. From scaling volcanoes in the Philippines to backpacking through National Parks and scuba diving with sharks, his global travels—alongside his wife and three children—have shaped a deep appreciation for culture, family traditions, and the importance of planning for the unexpected.
